“Earl Weaver stands alone as the greatest manager in the history of the Orioles organization and one of the greatest in the history of baseball. This is a sad day for everyone who knew him and for all Orioles fans. Earl made his passion for the Orioles known both on and off the field. On behalf of the Orioles, I extend my condolences to his wife, Marianna, and to his family.”

-Orioles Managing Partner Peter Angelos

The Orioles invite fans to please leave any condolences and memories of Earl in this guestbook blog’s comments.

Coach Weaver was the best and I am honored to have been able to watch him mentor and coach so many baseball greats. Coach Weaver will always be in the hearts of every true Marylander.

Was very please that Earl had the summer he had. It was probably the most time he had spent at Camden Yards since it was built. I am so glad he got to see his statue placed as well as all the others he had coached. RIP to one of the greatest managers that baseball has ever had.

I grew up close to Memorial stadium. I remember my Dad taking us there. The smell of the popcorn. The stickiness of the concrete. Paul Blair hit a foul ball over and out of the seats behind home plate. I remember when Bobby Grich took over for Davey Johnson and Doug Decinces took over for Brooks Robinson and when Mark Belanger played short. I loved watching Don Buford pump his arm when he batted. I never could figure out why he did that. But Earl was there with all of them. Riding to spring training with Jim Palmer or praising Al Bumbry for his speed or Eddie Murray for his homers or just getting everyone behind the thought that winning is what you do, not what you want to do, not what you hope to do, but just what you do. You win with good defense, good pitching and the three run homer. I never thought Earl was an entertainer. He was a winner.

Earl, I grew up going to Orioles games with my Dad. The highlight of course was watching you in action. The Orioles have always been my favorite team, and you were my favorite Oriole. You still are. I’ve missing ever since, and I always will. You were the best manager they ever had! You will be GREATLY missed! Rest In Peace!!

I can’t imagine my childhood without Earl. The O’s and Earl were like cake and ice cream. They just belong together. He IS the greatest manager baseball has ever seen, and always will be in my book. Thanks Earl for just being you. You lived your way.

I was fortunate enough to remember Earl Weaver. Pitching, defense & timely hitting were his hallmarks. I watched him argue with the umpires & eventually be ejected. Classic stuff. I was at Oriole Park last year when he had his statute unveiled. I’m glad he lived long enough to see that. It’s not just a loss for the Weaver family & the Orioles but the league as a whole. R.I.P Earl Weaver.

Earl Weaver the best coach the orioles ever had back in the day. My dad and I loved watching you, we would sit at the kitchen table and watch the oriole game and my dad was right there with you Earl fussing at the umps. You were a firecracker back then but always a wonderful man. I bet you and my dad are up there talking and laughing right now. We love you Earl and will miss you so much.

RIP Earl of Baltimore……Thank you for ALL of the great memories from my childhood through my young adult years of watching Baltimore Orioles baseball. You were extremely instrumental in making the Orioles the winningest team in baseball during your reign as manager. In my eyes, you were the greatest. Also, the most entertaining manager ever. Thank you for everything you have done for the Orioles organization and baseball as a whole. Thank you for helping the Orioles and Baltimore as a whole to learn the Oriole Way….and that it doesnt apply strictly to baseball, but also applies to fundamentals in life. I’m so glad that you were able to watch the Orioles return to winning ways last season, and that you were here for the honor donned on you. You will go down as one of the Greatest Managers of All-Time, but to many of us, you were the greatest. You will never be forgotten and will be truly missed. I offer my concdolences to the Weaver family, friends of the family, players and fellow coaches, and those whose lives were touched the Earl of Baltimore. RIP

Long will I remember warm suimmer nights at old Memorial Stadium and Earl walking out to the mound to talk to the likes of Palmer and Cuellar. As the Wasington Post once wrote, to learn baseball you needed to be taught by Professor Weaver at Memorial.

To the best in the business…”The Earl Of Baltimore”! So many great memories of you in action at Memorial Stadium…in the face of umpires and kicking the dirt on to their shoes. Some of the best times in my childhood were going to O’s games with my parents and 3 siblings and watching you and our beloved team play the game of baseball. You lived a good full life and ironically left this world on an Orioles cruise…how fitting of a send off. Rest in Peace Earl, there will never be another like you!

One of my fondest memories is watching the Orioles with my grandfather. He drank Natty Boh in an old easy chair, and hooted and hollered every time Earl would come out and give an ump the business. RIP, Earl. You are an indelible piece of Baltimore.

My oldest memory of Earl Weaver goes back to an NBC Saturday Game of the Week in 1975. I was 9 years old and living on the West Coast but was already head over heels in love with the Orioles. True to form, Earl was screaming at the ump. Who would have ever thought that one day in 2010 I would have the honor of attending the 40th anniversary luncheon in honor of the 1970 World Champions at the B & O Warehouse. When Earl spoke, I listened and was in awe. May God be with the Weaver family and grant them peace. RIP Earl, I will never forget you.

I was raised on Orioles baseball and until he retired, Earl was the only manager the Orioles had. I was saddened by his retirement and thrilled when he returned. There was just something about his presence in the Black and Orange that made you feel that something good was going to happen. I am extremely saddened by his passing and I hope that MLB knows it was very fortunate to have a man like Earl involved in the game.

Earl was the original database of statistics. His use of information printed on notepads and index cards were baseball’s original version of database software, Excel spreadsheets, and the Internet. The man changed the game forever.

Earl may have been born in St. Louis be we Marylanders claimed him as our own long ago. He gave so much to us by doing what he did with and for the Orioles.

Godspeed to you Earl. You will always be missed and never be forgotten. Thank you for being a huge part of my childhood memories and love of the Orioles.

My condolences to Earl’s family, friends, and anyone who has ever been fortunate enough to be in the Orioles organization. Bless you all.

Although I was not alive for the Orioles glory days when you were the coaching I still am well aware how great you were not only to the Orioles but for the city of Baltimore. Becoming a Baltimore Orioles fan in the heart of “Red Sox Nation” was tough growing up but I never let anyone or anything stand in the way. Since 2006 I have made countless trips to the city to watch the Ravens/Orioles. From fans to the Orioles Ushers, I have not heard anything bad about you Earl, you are a well respected man and I believe the Orioles would not be the same if you never managed them! Thanks for the Oriole Way, thanks for the championship and thanks for being a great person off the field as well. RIP and help bring us a championship to the city of Baltimore!

A genuine gentleman and someone I was proud to have met and watched on and off of the field. Baseball has lost a wonderful person, but he is now in the real Baseball Hall of Fame with the other truly great players and managers. May he rest in peace and his family know he was loved by many!

I was born in 1982 and have lived in Seattle my whole life but I’ve been an Orioles fan since before I can remember. I became one because of Cal and Eddie but as I grew up I came to learn about and love the history of the Orioles and to love and admire Earl Weaver for his brilliance, incredible impact on the game of baseball, and his incomparable personality. As long as there are fans who care about baseball’s great history Earl will live on.
I wish you pitching, defense, and three run homers in Heaven, Earl.

Being born in Baltimore, I grew up listening to Orioles baseball on AM radio…listening to the song “The Earl of Baltimore”…I remember the 1983 World Series Championships…Earl Weaver was (and still is) a baseball icon, and I am glad to know that he got to see his statue before he passed. You will be missed.
